Word of Mouth’s 2nd Poetry Event

Posted on Posted in News, Reflections

Great day. I’ve never been part of a more beautifully organized poetry show. The list of poets was astounding, each artist was awe-inspiring in his or her own way. There were highly impressive newcomers, a fifteen and a seventeen year old, veterans, poets who performed in English and others who performed in Arabic, a superstar guest from the UAE, poet-rappers, poets of diverse ethnicities, and a slew of styles and subjects.

Reem’s Inked Out — black out — poetry gallery illuminated the hallway, and the generous people at Breo provided catering for the event.

My mother attended one of my poetry shows for the first time and hugged me at the end of my performance. A friend who’d been filming me in the audience managed to capture the moment.

I am forever grateful.

It’s sad to see that news articles lust after conflict, corruption, violence, and dogma in the Middle East. Tolerance, beauty, difference and melody vibrate in artistic and cultural venues throughout the region where a vivacious youthful culture heals old wounds.

I’ll add the professional video of the performance when I receive the link from Urban Q8 Films.
