Today I performed “Dear Ms. English Teacher” at the opening of the interschool round for spoken word poetry in which The English School (TES), New English School (NES) and the British School of Kuwait (BSK) competed. Students from Reception to Year 8 performed poems from Roald Dahl to Edgar Allen Poe. I sat in the judging panel as a head judge and had to settle a tie breaker once. It was tough. I do hope more events such as this take place in Kuwait. We need to educate a new generation of citizens to view literature as more than a hobby. Maybe one day they too will find that literature can provide a key that unlocks not merely hidden potential but hidden identities.
